My name is Larry Gott, and I am an atheist. I know that there are many definitions of "atheist," and that you may not agree, but I call myself an atheist in that I have no belief in any god. That's actually ironic for one whose last name auf Deutsch means God. I didn't pick the name. I was born with it.

I can't prove that there are no gods, and I don't try to. In the main I argue against only one, the god of the Bible, because that's the one with which I am most familiar, having been brought up in a Christian household.

Since I lack proof that gods don't exist, some of you may say I am an agnostic. And, strictly speaking, you would be right. But since I go by my definition of atheist (a= without/ theos=god) I have to say that lacking a belief in any god is enough to call myself an atheist. After all, theists, those who do believe in a god or gods, also lack sufficient proof. Let's just define ourselves and leave the argument on definitions to others.

I hope in this blog to stimulate thought, and comment, and civil argument. I won't use rough language here, and I ask my readers not to. Points can be made without rancor, or they don't deserve to be made. I will remove deliberate trolling and insults, but I will consider civil arguments and respond if I think I can make a good rebuttal.

I've been doing YouTube videos for some time, but blogging is new to me. So for the moment at least, I will stop and give my first blog post some thought.
